Allie Smith

Allie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 2025 before working as a Judicial Law Clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  She grew up in Yarmouth, ME and has lived in Lewiston, ME for the last decade.

During law school, Allie worked as a Student Attorney in the Youth Justice Clinic representing youth in juvenile matters. She simultaneously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review and as a Teaching Assistant in legal writing.

Allie’s career has long focused on advocating for young people. Prior to law school, she spent six years in nonprofit direct service, where she helped youth experiencing housing instability access education and employment. At Maine Law, she was awarded both the Youth Justice Fellowship and the Cushman D. Anthony Clinic Fellowship, served as a Youth Justice & Policy Intern and Student Attorney, and published a law review article urging Maine to adopt a minimum age of jurisdiction for its juvenile courts. As Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review, she also co-organized a three-journal symposium focused on housing policy and the rights of those experiencing homelessness.

Upon graduation, Allie received the Faculty Scholastic Achievement Award for the highest grade-point average in her class; the Wernick Prize for Legal Writing; and the Maine Law Foundation Alumni award, given to the student identified by faculty as an outstanding member of the graduating class. She passed the Maine Bar Examination in 2025, receiving both the Kenneth R. Clegg Award for the highest overall score by a first-time taker and the Laurie A. Gibson award for the highest score on the essay portion of the exam. After law school, Allie spent a year clerking in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Allie lives in downtown Lewiston and is passionate about supporting her community.  Outside of work, she loves to garden, swim, sing karaoke, spend time with her wife and family, and tackle an endless list of projects in her late-1800s home.
